Some really lovely photos

So this isn’t going to be a blog about kitchens, or even interiors. But with that said, I think these words and images are still totally relevant to our blog. Fashion and interior trends go hand in hand, and beautiful photography is timeless and what we’re all about here at deVOL. I love being able to talk about things I love on this blog, and hope you can take a little inspiration from each post, no matter what it’s about.
I’ve always had a sort of fascination with fashion photography. I remember looking through the pages of my mum’s Vogue magazines when I was younger, I wasn’t really interested in the words, it was the pictures I loved.
And it isn’t just the finished shot, sitting there looking quite beautiful on the pages of Vogue or Tatler that fascinates me. I love the lighting, the locations, the styling and the hair and makeup and the models too. I love how all of these elements can come together at one perfect moment to create that killer shot. That shot that makes you sit and stare, that makes you think ‘wow’, ‘I have to go and buy that now’, ‘I really want to be that girl’ or ‘I really want to be with that girl’ … that shot that you don’t just flick past in a magazine saturated with beautiful girls and guys, wearing beautiful things in beautiful places. I love those kind of photos.
Anyway, I came across a brand called ‘For Love & Lemons’ a couple of weeks ago, they sell the most lovely and luxurious clothing, loungewear and underwear, just my cup of tea. But what really got me was their photography, it’s insanely beautiful and captivating. With each new collection, they take you on a journey and tell a story through a set of totally cool photos. I think they’ve got it pretty spot on.
After a bit of research I found out that LA based photographer, Olivia Malone, is behind lots of the crazy beautiful imagery for For Love & Lemons, among lots of other famous brands and faces. I checked out Olivia’s portfolio and wasn’t surprised to see that it’s full to the brim with loveliness, so I thought I’d share some of my favourite Olivia Malone shots with you.

I love the way Olivia uses light in her photos. The way she creates shadows and shapes and texture so naturally. I love that all of her images feel real, they don’t have that contrived vibe to them that some fashion shots can have, they’ve got true atmosphere and life.
I love the vintage vibe to Olivia’s photos, reminiscent of photography from the 60’s & 70’s. They’re a little grainy and have such a lovely warmth. They’ve got that ‘imperfectly perfect’ feel, not overly photoshopped or smoothed out. I guess these photos feel relatable and not so far from what reality looks like.
And these photos got me thinking… we’ve got some exciting things coming up for The Pink Pantaloon Co. too, I hope we can take some inspiration from these beautiful shots for our next photoshoots… and how cool would the location below be for a PP shoot!?
Olivia has shot for mags including Elle, Nylon and Cosmopolitan… for brands such as Free People, For Love & Lemons, Mara Hoffman, Urban Outfitters and Rebecca Minkoff. Olivia has photographed celebs including Alexa Chung, Emily Ratajkowski, Miley Cyrus, Ellen Page and do you remember the video for Robin Thicke & Pharrell’s ‘blurred lines’ that went viral all over the globe? yep, Olivia shot that too! What an incredible résumé.
