New showroom now open!
25th February 2014
The new showroom is now open. There are still odd jobs going on. Phil is just finishing off the doorway from the Mill through to the new mezzanine and Ben is making the bannister for the lovely stone staircase. We have resin fixed in threaded rod into the limestone steps and the hand planed spindles have been wound down onto a 10mm stainless steel washer. The spindles are 12mm circles at the bottom, oval in the middle and rectangular at the top. They are all made with a spoke shave, not turned. The hand-rail will be made in situ by laminating thin strips of oak onto the top of the spindles. You can see a laminated ply former held in place by some hand cramps. This will be drilled and used as a template for the 3mm thick oak laminates.
We’re making it up as we go, but it is going to be unique and beautiful and already draws lots of attention from the steady stream of customers who visit the mill.
