mellow yellow
29th July 2015
My daily look at Pinterest took me to a yellow place today, we are so lucky to be able to access all these beautiful photographs and share them on blogs, none of the following pictures are taken by us here at deVOL they are just interiors from around the world.
Ok, so the weather isn’t as good as it could be for July, so I thought I would offer up a few images of sunshine inside. Yellow is a colour that is always in the background when it comes to interiors. It has recently had a bit of press and lots of magazines have been featuring a splash of yellow in their images, but this was quickly overtaken by the current love of cane and wicker furniture and of course the cactus (which should never be out of style in my opinion!). These seventies style chairs and tables are something that you usually see in an old garden shed or on a skip or in grandmas conservatory.
Isn’t it funny how things can go from worthless to cool so suddenly, you can almost see the trend arriving, sometimes little by little sometimes within a few months, they can go from cool to ordinary to uncool so quickly. It’s fashion for interiors!! and that can change as quickly as it does in the high street clothes stores. I watched a film on the fashion industry and how it has changed so dramatically over the last two decades, apart from Oil it is the biggest grossing commodity in the world. There used to be 4 seasons in the year for clothing but now there are 52!! Shops introduce new lines weekly and the prices have dropped dramatically to the level where fashion has become so accessible it is almost throwaway.
So with this in mind I hope that we can begin to treasure things that are old and not always top of the cool list. We do try here at deVOL to keep our trends set, we don’t want customers to feel if they choose a kitchen colour today it will be gone in a month or two. This won’t happen, we are so careful to stick to modern classics, a cliche I know, but it’s true. We don’t just do it with our colours, we do it with our kitchens and our accessories, from taps to sinks to cupboards. Why change something that looks great? Ok once in a while we add a new colour or a new worktop but it’s considered and will stick around.
So my thought for this dreary day is to favour yellow as a underused but quite delightful colour to include in your home.
