By far the most interesting event I attended at this year’s Cheltenham Design Festival was a talk given by one of the UK’s finest landscape architects, Kim Wilkie.

Kim explained that every location has its own character and identity – they are shaped by the natural flows of people, land, water and climate. He goes to great lengths to understand the memories embedded in the location and aims to reveal those lost connections for use in our own time.

Some of his most fascinating public work includes Orpheus at Boughton House (above) and the V&A Museum Garden in London. However, the ideas of being inspired by the history of the land can be seen right here at Cotes Mill.

During my 3 years of study at the University, I rarely got the chance to actually venture out of Loughborough and understand the local landscape. With the recent sunny weather I have been out exploring and researching. Below is a small collection of snaps from my journeys.
