deVOL Recipes: Emily’s Orange Flapjacks

3rd May 2016

By Zoe Parker

Today we’ve got a super easy and super delicious recipe from the birthday girl and our London showroom manager Emily… Happy Birthday Emily!! It’s her famous orange flapjacks and they’re incredible. So syrupy and buttery and moist and sticky. Emily treated us to a batch of these the other day, the showroom was filled with the sweetest smell and all of our staff and customers tucked in, mmmm.

I love making these flapjacks. They are so easy to make and the orange just makes it a little different from other recipes I have used. In my opinion, a flapjack is not a flapjack if it’s not super sticky and falling apart when you eat it. I first discovered this recipe in a lovely book by Emma-Lee Gow.

1 large orange

250g unsalted butter (cut into pieces)

250g golden caster sugar

175g golden syrup

425g porridge oats

First off preheat your oven to 180 degrees and line your tin with some baking paper to make sure nothing gets stuck. Pop the rind of your orange into a heavy based saucepan with the butter pieces, sugar and syrup. Turn your heat on and cook this mixture gently on a low heat until all of the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved. Remove the saucepan from the heat, stir in your oats and then pop all of the mixture into your lined baking tray. You’ll need to cook the mixture for about 25 minutes or until it’s all lovely and golden brown… yep, it’s as easy as that!
