A mixture of sunshine and style on our latest kitchen shoot

A beautiful sunny day and a beautiful setting was the perfect recipe for our latest photo shoot. The light poured into the spacious living area of this beautifully restored barn in Old Woodhouse, Leicestershire, giving a very mediterranean atmoshphere to the photographs. The garden is directly in front of the kitchen, stone arches have been hand crafted to frame the bank of windows and doors that lead into the walled garden. The light honey coloured stone is now slightly weathered and with shoots of ivy just starting to edge onto the arches, the atmosphere and look was most definitely French gite, good job i decided to buy lots of baguettes on the way.
This look is one of my favourites for both interiors and gardens, it is often hard to re create in England without looking contrived, but this barn and its Shaker kitchen are the perfect blend of French charm and simple classic design.
We designed this Shaker kitchen to include some large bespoke cabinets that fill the walls in a simple elegant way.
A beautiful fitted glazed Dresser is the focal point of the room, its wide reflective glass doors, honed black granite worktop and double cupboards below, are both elegant and functional (painted in a combination of Linen and Mushroom).
The white Silestone worktop on the Island gives a clean, almost clinical feel that works beautifully with the soft muted ‘Mushroom’ paint of the cabinet below.
I think this kitchen works so well because we used traditional and contemporary colours, cabinet styling and materials. The combination gives a natural flowing feel to the room that is not themed or fashionable but just right. The best kitchens look almost as if they haven’t been designed, the choices fit so perfectly in the space that its seems hardly design but more common sense (and a little bit of style).
