Our new Milk Glass Pendant is reminiscent of those hung from high ceilings and kitchens in France in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, they were considered plain and functional. Each of our shades is individually mouth-blown using glass with oxides and opacifiers added to give the milky translucent finish.
This conical shade is so simple, delicately clasped between the aged brass screws of an airy gallery, it almost wafts from the twisted cotton cord it's so graceful. The gentle sway of the pendant hanging high up on the ceiling creates effortless style and the milk glass is translucent so it diffuses the light beautifully, creating an ethereal glow in all directions.
One of our favourite parts of this new light is the ceramic ceiling rose, so often a beautiful light will hang from a large or ill-considered rose that jars with the ceiling and makes for a clumsy, overly fussy look. This coordinating rose is so subtle it is barely noticed but when it is, there is no disappointment.
These shades are often found at flea markets and antique fairs but they tend to have old wiring or broken galleries, it’s really hard to find undamaged ones with a clean, sharp shape in any quantity. We always want our products to feel authentic, so rather than reinvent them, we just tweak them a little to safeguard their original function and look.
deVOL's new Milk Glass Pendants look great in rooms with high ceilings, allowing the simple shape to be admired. As always, we like lighting that is not overpowering or a statement, but classic and authentic.
