A Regency Terrace in Bristol
A very lovely family who featured on our TV show ‘For The Love of Kitchens’, are renovating a late Georgian 18th century terraced house in Clifton, a leafy suburb of Bristol where tree-lined crescents and boutiques create a wonderful village feel.
The kitchen was one of the first rooms they worked on and with the help of Francesca, one of deVOL's kitchen designers, they came up with a beautifully simple Shaker layout painted in Clerkenwell Blue. The island is the centrepiece and separates the room perfectly, allowing plenty of space for a large dining table in front of the beautiful marble fireplace.
The house used to be a rental property, the room that is now the kitchen was divided into several smaller spaces and the original kitchen was tiny and in need of a lot of love. Once the walls were knocked down it was brought back to its original grandeur. There was a large alcove within the room that created a few layout options which the family spent considerable time deciding on, the finished design allows this architectural feature to shine and allows space and light to fill the room.
The original features of this property give the room so much character. We were so pleased the family chose to buy two huge vintage crystal chandeliers from deVOL as well, their proportions and faded glamour really emphasise and suit the incredibly high ceilings.
Window seats and a glazed back door look out over a balustraded balcony onto the gardens below, the crescent curves gently and you can see the incredibly ornate verandas and balconies so typical of this era. One of the most beautiful homes we have visited, absolutely brimming with original features, high ceilings and beautiful Georgian proportions that make this kitchen feel very special.
