A Kitchen in Hove
‘London by the sea’ - Brighton and Hove has it all, the ocean, the beach and a never-ending supply of cool and quirky shops, vegan zero-waste cafes and bustling fresh seafood restaurants, everyone just seems a bit cooler in this town. The houses are pretty special too, Regency crescents with rows of cream painted terraces all with ornate ironwork and balconies looking out to sea.
This new Shaker kitchen project is perfectly simple and worked so well in the newly extended kitchen of a pretty Victorian terrace in Hove. Lots of contemporary touches in amongst the many beautiful original features of this home, it’s this mix of styles that we always love so much at deVOL. The bespoke olive green paint on the cupboards is a soft, calm and classic choice and mixed with pale Silestone worktops it creates another clever mix of traditional and modern elements.
The garden was an absolute gem, three ancient olive trees trimmed down so they could make it through the house during the renovation, they were gnarly and so Mediterranean it would be easy to transport yourself to a Spanish olive grove if you didn’t have Brighton, squawking seagulls and the sea minutes away. An exceptionally well finished concrete floor, some stunning lighting choices and really simple tasteful crockery and kitchen paraphernalia have made this Shaker kitchen a favourite with our younger customers who want to show restraint and style in their homes. Knocking out the back of a Victorian terrace is generally the best solution when renovating, get rid of an old dark and very small kitchen and swap it for a bright open space with plenty of glass and a little garden that becomes a part of your kitchen once the sun shines. Easy, modern and stylish, the Hove Kitchen is what you would hope for if you walked into a home in this uber-cool city by the sea.
