A Brownstone in Jersey City
A one-of-a-kind Queen Anne Victorian brownstone overlooking the historic Van Vorst Park in Downtown Jersey City, USA, and the home of a truly beautiful new deVOL kitchen. This is the very first customer project in the USA to be featured on our website, how exciting.
The owners went to painstaking lengths to preserve and salvage this building's original features, including the intricate and very pretty crown moulding that wraps around the top of the kitchen, recreating it in places to match the original 1850s plaster. Our Classic English furniture was the perfect choice for a room, and a home, so full of charm and history but mixing in some Shaker pieces allowed the customers to not only keep a check on costs, but add some variety too. These two ranges sit so happily together and we often take the approach of a bit of both in our showrooms.
The island is the centre of the action here and the place to prep, clean and hang out on our Bum Stools! The cooker run features a classic Lacanche range, a deVOL pot filler tap, an elegant countertop cupboard with reeded glass and the family's refrigeration. Running along the back wall is an envy-inducing run of tall larder cupboards finished with a traditional library ladder, painted in the same soft 'Mushroom' colour as the furniture.
The final area of this room is the little 'wet bar' and it might be our very favourite part. A corner of the kitchen dedicated to drinking, sheer luxury! A copper sink, an integrated wine cooler and cupboards above to store liquor and mixers and spoons and shakers.
Now, let's talk about those walls. The 'plaster effect' has become very popular over the last few years but nobody does it quite like the Jersey Ice Cream Co. These guys just get it right every single time with their hand-trowelled custom plaster walls that are so full of texture and depth and interest, we love seeing our cupboards with such a cool backdrop.
Slabs of bold Arabascato Corchia marble top the deVOL cupboards throughout this room and our frilly handmade porcelain pendant lights temper the luxury with their humble beauty and enchanting glow. Oh we love this kitchen, it's calming colour palette and the way it makes you wish you could be right there, right now.
Thank you so much to the interior designers of this space, And Studio, for allowing us to share it with you, and to Nicole Franzen for the beautiful photography. We don't very often share other people's photographs on our website but these ones were just too good to keep to ourselves!
